Last Night
I haven't felt this type of stress in over eight months. Today I was talking to David about how I feel like I've forgotten what it feels like to do a full rehearsal day; it's almost unfathomable to me in my current state. Even though that feeling is lost to me, I'm learning all about the stress brought on by writing assignments. I've been having extreme ups and downs health wise (especially emotionally) over the past week. In addition to writing for Dance Spirit, I was recently asked to do a little writing for the next issue of Movmnt Magazine.
This is a wonderful challenge for me because it's forcing me to step outside of my comfort zone. Quite frankly, I'm used to writing about myself or at least a topic that I have decided. With my assignments for Movmnt, I'm writing one about the star of the upcoming "Center Stage 2" (you read that right) and another on the fantastic composer Nico Muhly. I'm flexing my reporting muscles, but you'll have to pick up the issue when it hits newsstands in late January to read all about it.
Feeling like I needed a little night of relaxation, I headed over to Marcelo's yesterday for a mini-boys night. We finally had our long-discussed marathon of the brilliant (and canceled) "The Comeback." Marcelo, Blaine, Sean and I were laughing up a storm but it was short lived. I had to return home to my assignments which kept me up well into the night. Right now I'm taking a step back before I go in for a round of editing. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures from our impromptu photo shoot.
(Blaine shows off his hand modeling skills.)
(Lua isn't buying it.)
(Perhaps if we do a photo shoot Lua will love us?)
(Hell yeah she will! Call US Weekly!)
(Let's take a moment to collect ourselves.)
(Family portrait gone wild.)
(Oh no. The props have entered the picture...)
(Lua's still not buying it...back to "The Comeback!")

Ah the stress of a deadline, I know it well. I'm currently procrastinating my latest project so if you need a fresh pair of eyes, feel free to shoot me an email. Godspeed!

Oh my god, did you just say "Center Stage 2" and Nico Muhly in the same sentence! I am a huge fan of Nico Muhly--and you already know how much I loved the first "Center Stage." You must, must, must let me know how your article on Muhly goes, I was JUST listening to his album "Speaks Volumes" today! (I even blogged about it like the dork that I am.) I'm absolutely jealous.

Glad I could make your heart stop for a second Ariel ;-) I even got an advance listen to his new album, it's going to be FANTASTIC. I've listened "Speaks Volumes" a lot over the past few days. The article should be fun.
As for "Center Stage 2," I can't give out any more info ;-)
P.S. David saw you on my Facebook today and says hello!

Aw tell David I said "Hi" back and that Mobile misses him! I can't believe you got to hear the new album and I can't wait to read your articles. Don't let those deadlines kill you either!

Ummmm Center Stage 2???? Be still my heart!
Ah writing assignment stress. Nothing like some of that to bring your fear of failure and feelings of inadequacy front and center. At least if you're a perfectionist like me, which I have a strange feeling you might be, at least to an extent.

Lua is absolutely the most adorable dog I've ever seen. She's like an actress.

center stage 2?! i always thought there was a mini-trilogy with The Turning Point, Dancers, and Center Stage ( because the "young girl" from the previous always appears as the "experienced dancer" in the next.) congrats on your writing opportunities!

The moment I read "Center Stage 2" you made my day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep up the fabulousness, very excited to read your articles :)

A Google search on "Center Stage 2" will provide some information for all of us craving it. Sounds like Ethan Stiefel and Peter Gallagher will both be back. This link was pretty useful:

But it took me a few seconds to realize that in the following quote, the number "2" was modifying "years," and had nothing to do with the movie:
"Mexican pop diva returns to center stage 2 years after leaving jail."

Center stage 2? There is a God! And he loves me! Can't wait to read your article about it! And the one in Dance Spirit. Did you see the one about Mash in this past month's magazine? That girl is so photogenic it makes me sick!

Count me among those who are becoming Nico Muhly fanatics. Can't wait to see the article. (Wait! I shouldn't say that! More stress!) :)

So excited that everyone is eagerly anticipating the next issue of Movmnt. I've gotten rough drafts out of both articles which I'm pretty happy with. In the middle of listening to some of Nico's new CD. Ahhhh, the perks of being "press." ;-)

Center Stage 2! I can't believe it! I can't wait to read the article. I don't mean to dwell on that but I'm absolutely obsessed. I like the pictures too! Looks like fun.
